History of School

The School was founded by Mrs. Elisabeth Gauba in 1938 at 8, Hailey Road under the name 'The Elisabeth Gauba Preparatory School'. The main thrust of the school was and still is to impart education through innovative and highly interactive style. In 1969, in order to formalize the school which was already 30 years old, she registered The Shiv Niketan Education Society and named the School as 'Shiv Niketan School'. The school continued to function at 8, Hailey Road from 1938 till 2001.

Aunty Gauba developed a unique education system called “The Shiv Niketan System”. This system helps the child be an independent learner and thus helps in creating individuals with strong personality traits. The system aims at building a solid base wherein, through easy and effective learning, the children are able to master even the most difficult tasks.

The learning process is not a burden for the children, but a joyous task. It gives children both happiness and satisfaction. It also teaches self-discipline and self-control.

Lord Shiva, according to scriptures, is the symbol of destruction of all evil, especially the demon of “ignorance”. Aunty Gauba believed that true knowledge could be experienced only when the third eye is open and therefore her unique method of teaching evolved around this cardinal concept.
