About The Elisabeth Gauba School
Mrs. Elisabeth Gauba (fondly called as ‘Aunty Gauba’ by her students) founded the preparatory school in 1938 at 8, Hailey Road. Shiv Niketan Society was registered in 1969 and the ‘Elisabeth Gauba Preparatory School’ came to known as “Shiv Niketan School” with Mrs. Elisabeth Gauba as the first Chairperson.
The student –teacher relationship is carefully nurtured so that the school is not seen as a substitute for parent, yet providing an atmosphere away from the family for a mindset of open and free expression. For this to happen, each group has no more than twenty students.
Mr. Habib Tanvir, a well-known theatre personality and recipient of Padmabhushan took over the reins of Chairperson in 1984. Dr. Ranjana Kaul, the present Chairperson, a senior advocate by profession and who has been closely associated with Mrs. Elisabeth Gauba for over two decades was elected Chairperson of the society in 1998. It is under her dynamic leadership the society is progressing.
Few of Shiv Niketan’s illustrious students were the late former Prime Minister of India, Shri Rajiv Gandhi, late Shri Sanjay Gandhi and the renowned film personality, Shri Kabir Bedi.
