Our Journey from Classroom Teaching to Online Learning:
The indefinite closure of schools owing to the COVID-19 pandemic created a learning vacuum this year worldwide. The long lockdown for the COVID-19
pandemic posed a challenge to students’ learning. But the crisis was well managed at The Elisabeth Gauba School where the educators took up this
challenge to ensure continuity through online teaching. Our teachers are digitally literate but full-time distance education was still a new experience.
Our competent teaching and non-teaching staff overcame the technical constraint through vigorous training and workshop and within no time they
were expert at it. Our educators were always ready to help out the parents and our students to get familiar and be comfortable with the new
technology of e-learning. The cooperation of the parents in this regard is applaudable!
Our classes for new e-learning began on the day as scheduled in our yearly planner/calendar ie. in the beginning of April’20.
First phase:
The current session 2020-21 started with revision of all important concepts done in the previous session through worksheets,
assignments, voice and video recordings, etc by our educators.
Second phase:
The curriculum for the new session started with topics which were dealt interestingly in power point lessons,
video lectures and demonstration videos by our teachers, e-assignments, e-worksheets. Due to the lockdown when books were unavailable to
the students, the educators shared the lessons by presenting their screens and sending scanned copies to children.
Third Phase:
E-learning started with live teaching using teaching aids like white board/blackboard, etc with a mix of e-activities,
e-worksheets and interactive sessions through Google Meet and Google Classroom.
Structured Internal online assessment is done to gauge the effectiveness of our online teaching in an innovative and
student friendly manner. Children look forward to the Extra curricular activities which are equally important for their all-round development.
Story telling sessions are an added attraction for the young children. Virtual Workshops on traffic rules, reading and storytelling,
etc were organised to promote pupils’ wellbeing and increase awareness of topics.
-
We have a structured plan which does not suffocate or burden the students.
-
We are completely in sync with the directives of the government when it comes to limited screen time for our students.
-
Educators are accessible to all students over video/audio calls in case of any doubts.
-
Remedial classes for students who need extra help is taking place before / after the scheduled time for online classes.
-
Online virtual class activities are being conducted to encourage students to look beyond
their textual knowledge and apply the same to establish a relationship between theory and application of the learnt concepts.
It is important to embrace this new e-learning methodology which has its limitations but at the same time make use of
the opportunities as this is the need of the hour till the schools reopen. We join hands with our cooperative parents to strive
for an improved learning outcome for our youngsters!
